Abstract

I wish to point out an ambiguity in the otherwise excellent paper by Peselnick and Zietz, “Internal Friction of Fine Grained Limestones,” that appeared in the April, 1959, issue of Geophysics. The authors derive a distance attenuation coefficient [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]which is proportional to the first power of the circular frequency ω, and show experimentally that [Formula: see text] is indeed a linear function of ω. The quantity [Formula: see text] is, however, not the attenuation coefficient usually employed in the pertinent literature.
