Discussion of “Interaction of Stream and Sloping Aquifer Receiving Constant Recharge” by A. Upadhyaya and H. S. Chauhan

Abstract

The authors should be commended for their study on the analytical and numerical solutions related to the problem of stream and a semi-infinite sloping/horizontal aquifer interaction. The authors found that the linearization of the nonlinear Boussinesq equation has only marginal impact on the predicted water table heights. In the applied linearization the nonlinear term (]h/]x) of Eq. ~1a! of the original paper is neglected and a constant D is introduced, which is considered to represent an average value of the water table height. However, many researchers such as PolubarinovaKochina ~1962! and Marino ~1973!, to mention only a few of them, have adopted the linearization in terms of h to account for the term (]h/]x).
