Abstract
The discusser notes that the authors' work does not link the relationship of peak internal geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) strength with tension peel strength, despite their citing Richardson (1997). The discusser explains that Richardson's work shows very strong response of increasing shear strength with increasing internal strength, occurring at both low and high normal stresses. Moreover, Richardson's conclusion -- that the peel strength must exceed a specific minimum value -- gives further credibility to the significance of the finding.
