Abstract

The ancient Incas practiced horizon astronomy in the Peruvian Andes through positional observations of the rising and setting Sun on days of ceremonial and agricultural significance. They also observed risings for celestial objects such as the Pleiades. A majority of the sites examined involve attention to the solstices. Solar orientations are preeminent and have been the primary focus in this book.
