Abstract

Coupland et al showed the effect of a γ-amino butyric acid transaminase inhibitor, Vigabatrin (VGB), on inner retinal function. They compared three groups of patients: a VGB multitherapy group (n = 24), who were taking VGB and at least one other antiepileptic drug; a VGB monotherapy group (n = 9); and an off-VGB group, in which patients had been treated with VGB previously but subsequently discontinued its use (n = 7). The authors observed abnormalities in the electroretinogram (ERG) and electrooculogram (EOG) in these patients.
