Abstract

Synopsis The highly stressed volume (HSV) approach is considered for relating tensile strength of concrete as determined by a range of test methods and a range of loading configurations with various sizes of specimen. The paper demonstrates that the approach explains the effect of specimen size of geometrically similar specimens upon tensile strength as determined by a given method. However, the HSV approach alone does not correlate the different values of tensile strength as yielded by various methods of test.
