Abstract
The review by Spear and Jespersen titled “Breast Implants: Saline or Silicone?” ( Aesthetic Surg J 2010;30:557-570) was informative and thorough. I am writing to expand on a few points. The authors did not discuss one of the strong advantages of silicone over saline, which relates to the impact on a plastic surgery practice. One reason many plastic surgeons favor silicone gel implants is that when there is a failure, there is no need for the surgeon to alter schedules on short notice in order to accommodate an urgent replacement, as there would be for a failed saline implant.
