Abstract

The paper first analyzes the current main protection principles utilized in wide-area relay protection system, including: wide-area current differential protection, wide-area direction comparative protection and adaptive protection based on the wide-area information of the power grid. Contrary to the exiting problems, this paper proposed some suggestions. Then from the application point, the structures and the dividing methods of information domains for the wide-area relay protection system are provided. With the development of IEC61850 standard, Multi-agent technology and grid computing technology, the paper finally investigates how to apply them to the wide-area relay protection system. The paper provides the references for both the further researches of the wide-area relay protection and the encountered technical issues when applied to the actual power grid.
