Abstract

Differences in ability to discriminate stereometric displays and planometric displays have been reported for monkeys. 16 pigeons trained with objects and pictures of objects (where object-picture transfer and object-picture discriminability were tested) showed no difference in ability to discriminate object pairs (stereometric displays) and picture pairs (planometric displays), whether object-picture transfer had been obtained or not. A possible explanation based on species-typical affordances is advanced.
