Abstract
The optical emission spectrum of spark light emitted when a pair of (1:1) CuZn powder electrodes is analysed by spark source mass spectrometry (SSMS) has been simultaneously recorded. The wavelengths of the optical emission lines are different from those found in the emission spectra of common emission spectrometric excitation sources. Deposits at different positions in the mass spectrometer have been analysed using atomic absorption spectrometry. The results show that preferential selection during the passage of the ion beam through the instrument takes place. Plausible explanations are proposed.
