Abstract

In this paper we show that a discrete random variable can be uniformized so that it could be represented as the first passage time of a discrete stochastic process Z associated with a point process N. This process N is generated by an independent sequence of identical geometric random variables with parameter equal to the uniformization constant of the discrete random variable of interest. An approach, using this result is proposed to generate samples for discrete random variables with non-standard probability distribution functions.
