Abstract

In previous work, the mathematical theory of a new class of numerical methods for the integration of Newtonian equations of motion was developed. This new class, denoted “discrete mechanics”, was shown to conserve, exactly, the additive constants of. motion (energy, linear and angular momenta). This theory is now extended to include systems of canonical equations of the Hamiltonian form.
