Abstract
Dandruff a potential threat in the modern day life especially in hair dressing can be overcome by using herbal treatment especially in using with Albizia saman methanolic leaf extract which yielded 34.72 % of the phytoconstituent in the 24 hour incubation. The dandruff causing fungi was isolated using Potato Dextrose agar and a yeast like was observed with a CFU of 48.5 and microbiologically screened using wet mount with Lacto Phenol Cotton Blue staining which showed oval button like appearance and physiological metabolite was detected for the presence of Catalase which also showed positive which confirms the presence of Malasszia ,the dandruff fungi. The methanolic extract of A. saman leaf was evaluated for the antidandruff potential against the dandruff causing fungi Malassezia species using diffusion assay and a MIC detected to be 78.4 mcg .To reveal the antidandruff potential of A. saman leaf extract, the extract was formulated in Oil and Shampoo which can be applied on day usage as Antidandruff agent .The formulated shampoo was evaluated for its detergency which exhibit 53.68 % foam dispersion. To conclude the formulated product – Oil and Shampoo containing A. saman methanolic extract was determined for its antidandruff activity against Malassezia species which exhibited a significant inhibitory zone activity of 19mm each respectively. Further study can be widely expanded to determine the potential substance along with its mechanism which inhibits the fungal growth through in vivo methods.
