D from the University of Oregon in 1977. After a short stint in the computer industry, he joined the mathematics faculty at Pacific Lutheran University, where he has been since 1980. His interests include undergraduate education (especially the appropriate use of technology), the history of mathematics, and the development of elementary algorithms to compute elementary functions. He has recently been part of an effort to use the ideas of Robert Moses to build a mathematical community in local school districts.
