Abstract

AbstractThis paper considers the reception of Thomas Hardy's poetry in Russia at different periods during the 20th century, including in companions, encyclopedias and writers' diary notes. The author stresses the importance of Joseph Brodsky's vision of Hardy the poet (as expressed in his essay on Hardy) for the contemporary Russian‐speaking reader.
