Abstract
ARLINGTON, Va. — Although she knew state law entitles students to an advisor or advocate in the student conduct process, Sarah McDowell Shupp, Director of the Office of Student Conduct at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania, noticed most students were showing up to their conduct hearings alone. And she wanted to help change that trend — especially for first‐generation, low‐income students who were less likely to have the resources or support to secure an attorney or other advisor. And that's how Shippensburg's Friendly Advisor Program was born.
