Abstract

Background: Diagnostic core-needle biopsy (DCNB) allows to identify the histological subtype of soft-tissue sarcoma in retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPS) with reasonable accuracy and safety. This allows for treatment tailored to different histologic subtypes of RPS, including neoadjuvant therapy. The discrepancy between the histological grade between DCNB and the resection specimen for retroperitoneal Leiomyosarcomas (RPLMS) has been highlighted before. The histological grade on DCNB is an important tool to select patients for preoperative therapy.
