Abstract
Scanning Auger microanalysis (SAM) has revealed that MnS x inclusions in 18Cr-14Ni stainless steel do not undergo any passivation, thus exposing themselves directly to the aggressive environment and producing large discontinuities within the passivating film at the inclusion/matrix boundaries and at the inclusions themselves.
