Abstract

Currently, special attention is paid to the quality of life of patients with epilepsy. Therefore, great importance is given to the possibility of canceling antiepileptic therapy with prolonged remission. Before discontinuation of therapy, it is necessary to conduct electroencephalography (EEG) and determine the level of antiepileptic drugs (AED) in blood plasma. The presence of signs of typical epileptic activity on the EEG is a likely question of the correctness of the chosen tactics and the need to identify possible symptomatic mild seizures has no clearly defined standards for reducing the dosage of AED. On the recommendation of some experts, benzodiazepines and barbiturates are canceled within 4-8 weeks, with a combination therapy with a break for each drug of 1 month for 4-8 weeks for each.
