Abstract
In this research, discoloration of indigo dyed denim garment along with color free effluent is introduced by using a combination of bio and nano-treatment. Indigo dyed denim garment were treated with amylase, cellulase, laccase and their combination with modified Montmorillonite based nano clay and mineral clay in the conventional washing machine. Adsorption of released indigo dye in the washing machine on the clay particles essentially open up new opportunity for possible reuse of washing effluent. The colorimetric properties of the treated garments were measured and the color changes expressed in CIE L*a*b* system. The surfaces of the treated fabrics were studied by scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray analysis. UV-Vis, Raman and transmission electron microscopy were used to study the possible interaction between the Montmorillonite and indigo dye. The results revealed the possibility of using combination of laccase and Montmorillonite in denim washing as a competitor process with conventional bio-washing with enzyme producing lower indigo staining on the denim garment.
