Churchill, Geraci, and Hunder (Ann Intern Med 87:754-759, 1977) that "disc space infections have not been reported in endocarditis previously," I only smiled and decided to not react. But the letter by W. J. Untereker and B. A. Hanna (Ann Intern Med 88:578, 1978) asking for recognition of an earlier description prompted me to write.To my knowledge, the first complete description of disc space infection in endocarditis was given by our team as early as 1965 (1) with the report of two cases.
