Abstract

Disc-like liquid crystals comprising alkyl esters or p-alkyl phenyl esters of benzene hexacarboxylate have been synthesized. Their chromatographic properties were tested after deposition on a support. It was found that a combination of chromatographic and thermooptical procedures allows a better characterization of the liquid crystal phases than when these techniques are used separately. Examples are given of the applicability of these phases to the separation of mixtures.
