Abstract

The lumbar spine consists of the five vertebral bodies, which comprise the anterior lumbar vertebral column, the intervertebral discs, the load transmitting pedicles and the posterior elements, which are specially adapted to receive the different forces acting on a vertebra (Bogduk 1999; Fig. 5.1).
