Abstract

In this paper, the equivalent transmission line (TL) model based on conjugately characteristic-impedance TLs (CCITLs) is effectively and accurately employed to analyze the directivity of a Hertzian dipole embedded in electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structures of one-unit-cell lossless multilayers in terms of the dipole vertical position, where both electric and magnetic Hertzian dipoles are considered. Numerical results preliminarily show that the maximum directivity, depending on observation angles, can be achieved by using an optimum dipole position for given EBG structures.
