Abstract

For some, this particular time of year, with its festivities and signs of early morning frost or even a light blanket of snow upon the ground, brings a good feeling. For nurses involved in Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments, it calls forth the deepest professional commitment possible. With the 'festivities', the likelihood of accidents increases; the sudden drops of temperature often catch those most susceptible to hypothermia unaware; and slippery pavements can send even the surefooted to sprains, strains and fractures.
