Abstract

This paper presents a new micro-patterning technique, the directional spin coating (DSC), and its application to fabrication of polymeric light emitting diode (PLED) array. The DSC is designed for creating line patterns out of solution processable materials. As a variation of the conventional spin coating, the DSC enjoys the advantages of convenience and low cost. Currently, linear arrays of PLEDs with 200 μm line width were successfully demonstrated using the DSC process. By consecutive application of the DSC process to the deposition of the red, green, and blue electroluminescent (EL) polymers, arrays of full-color PLEDs can be implemented.
