Abstract
Potential of using cascaded χ (2) processes for all-optical switching in nonlinear directional coupler geometry is investigated. Using second harmonic field as coupling agent in a symmetric pair of waveguides is shown to be capable of attaining coupling efficiency in excess of 50%. For the asymmetric pair of waveguides, existence of a coupling threshold has been found.
