Abstract

The free radical addition of methylene diacetate to α-olefins, initiated by di-tert-butyl peroxide, leads to the formation of the acetoxymethyl esters of aliphatic carboxylic acids, containing a very small amount (less than 1%) of the 1,1-diacetoxyalkanes as impurity.
