Abstract

A novel approach is proposed for DOA (Direction of Arrival) estimation for multipath (coherent) sources in non-uniform linear arrays (NLA), based on cancellation techniques. An initial DOA estimates of Coherent sources obtained by array interpolation and spatial smoothing method. Then cancellation of some signals from the observed date successively, the residuals of data received are used to estimate the left source. Iterative algorithms are developed to re-estimate DOA for improvement of estimation performance, respectively. Proposed approach overcomes some of the limitations of the conventional array interpolation. The algorithm works well for correlated and coherent sources. It is shown that the performance of DOA estimation is close to the CRB and the method is robust for a variety of sources and DOA scenarios.
