Abstract
In this report, we describe the functionalization of biotinylated microtubules with biotinylated cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles using a streptavidin linkage. These are exposed to kinesin-covered glass surfaces, where they bind and are monitored by epifuorescence microscopy. Placement of a magnet below the cell introduces an externally controlled magnetic field to manipulate microtubule placement, orientation, and transport on the kinesin-covered surfaces.
