Abstract
The author discusses his direction of an ethnographic field school in rural Mexico. Main topics include the structure of the school, recruitment of students, the greater appropriateness of such schools for graduate rather than undergraduate students, practical and ethical considerations concerning the students' health and safety, and the apparent greater adaptability and productivity of extroverted students compared with those who have only a high competence in the language of the host country.
