Abstract

M a n y materials are available for the construction of facial prostheses? '~ When fabricating facial prostheses from polyvinyl chloridet and polyurethane,:~ it is often advisable to use mblds constructed of Linotype meta l? ' 5 Metallic molds can be time-consuming to make and usually lack a certain degree of accuracy when fitted together upon completion. The lack of accuracy in the technique currently in use can be attributed to repeated impression and duplicating procedures Utilized during fabrication of the molds. A method of fabricating metallic molds by direct waxing will be described. I t eliminates the use of duplicating procedures in mold construction. This method wi l l also considerably reduce t h e laboratory time needed to fabricate the metal molds. The technique is used principally for fabricating facial prostheses that require twopiece metallic molds.
