Abstract

In order to improve the control performance of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drives, a novel direct torque control strategy of IPMSM with maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) is proposed in this paper. Based on the MTPA control strategy and polynomial approximation method, the relationship between the stator flux linkage and the electromagnetic torque is established. Consequently, the stator flux linkage can be dynamically regulated according to the different IPMSM operation conditions. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method effectively reduces the motor stator current magnitude and the power losses, increases the efficiency while maintaining the fast dynamic response feature of the conventional direct torque control.
