Abstract

The direct radiative capture cross-section is evaluated using the formalism of Lane and Lynn with a diffuse optical potential and an improved method of evaluating the integrals. These refinements are found to worsen the agreement with experiment. Calculations are also made for the proton capture reactions on cerium and bismuth studied by Daly and Shaw and the theory is found able to account for the data above 20 MeV, but not at lower energies.
