Abstract
Evidence for the direct observation of effects arising from a D-state component of the alpha particle wave function is presented in an analysis of tensor analysing power data for the 40Ca(d, α) 38K reaction at 12.3 DWBA calculations and data are consistent with shell model wave functions for the target nuclei and simple alpha particle wave function models.
