Abstract

In this paper an application of parallel processing to the numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation is studied. A classical one-dimensional unsteady evaporation/condensation problem is investigated by a simple domain decomposition method. In each domain the Boltzmann equation for a hard sphere gas is numerically solved by a technique combining finite differences with Monte Carlo methods. The good performances of this method on a parallel computer are analyzed and discussed.
