Abstract

AbstractDirect numerical simulation of two-dimensional flow past a normal flat plate having an aspect ratio of 0.125 has been carried out in the Reynolds number range of 30–175 to investigate the effect of various transitions of the wake with increasing Reynolds number reported previously on the mean and RMS flow field. The time-averaged and RMS flow field, particularly the far-wake, has been observed to be sensitive to various transitions. However, a marginal effect is observed on the mean integral parameters such as the drag coefficient and the Strouhal number.
