Abstract
A selective amperometric glucose sensor is described, based on direct electrochemical oxidation without recourse to voltage or time resolution techniques. In the presence of ionic and also uncharged interferents, selectivity is provided by a novel membrane composite of sulfonated polyether–ether sulfonepolyether sulfone copolymer and PVC plasticized with isopropyl myristate. Ratios for equimolar glucose: interferent are 20:1 for ascorbate, urate and ethanol and 10:1 for acetaminophen. Linear response extends to at least 600 mmol l–1, encompassing clinical use and agrofood applications.
