Abstract

An electro-chemical method of direct measurement of the concentrations of dissolved hydrogen in the mixed culture of anaerobic microorganisms was used for the determination of the rates of hydrogen production and consumption. A certain modification of the Sweet's conception has been used in the design of the device. Experiments demonstrate that the hydrogenase activity expressed as a hydrogen consumption rate corresponds well with the activity of electron carrier and with the concentration changes of particular volatile fatty acids.
