Abstract

This discussion concerns the integrity of methodology applied to a Lagrangian coordinate system used in describing the consolidation of a clay layer. The discussers question the legitimacy of the paper based on the use of an incorrect equation in evaluating real permeability. Counter-discussers state that the equation is misunderstood by the discussers. The counter-discussers also suggest alternate interpretation of excess pore pressure profiles presented in the original paper. The writers conclude that the proposed method is sound, but with the asumption of one dimensional consolidation and availability of high-quality instrumentation data.
