Abstract
A simple and colorimetric determination method for 1,1-dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) in liquid samples with satisfying sensitivity and selectivity has been developed based on the formation of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). The formation and aggregation of Au NPs, which had absorption of visible light and exhibited blue-purple color, were as a result of the redox reaction between chloroauric acid and UDMH. The effect of different variables such as pH, time, the concentration of polyvinylpyrrolidone and chloroauric acid were systematically investigated and optimized. The results of the determination experiments showed that the proposed method had an excellent performance for UDMH detection with a linear range of 2 μM −100 μM (r = 0.995) and a limit of detection (3Sb) of 0.35 μM. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for detection of 10 μM and 50 μM of UDMH were 3.1% and 1.6% (n = 6), respectively. The proposed method exhibited convenience, anti-interference, stability and reproducibility abilities, making it possible to successfully detect UDMH in tap and lake water samples.
