Abstract

Authentic interpolation, by which the interpolated curve exactly goes through the input data points, has always been adopted by digital volume/image correlation (DVC/DIC) methods. However, the heavy utilization of random-access memory (RAM) caused by authentic interpolation, especially in the case of DVC, remains unresolved until today. In order to realize weightless DVC, direct cubic B-spline interpolation, which is a fuzzy interpolating method simplified from the conventional cubic B-spline interpolation, and its implementation for DVC, are introduced in details. Both numerical and real experiments were conducted to verify the accuracy and robustness of the weightless DVC based on the direct cubic B-spline interpolation. Results show that the direct cubic B-spline interpolation has even better accuracy and robustness for weightless DVC compared to its conventional counterpart.
