Abstract

Ni supported on silica-alumina with variable Si/Al ratio was prepared by incipient wetness impregnation and catalytically tested in the direct conversion of ethylene to propene. For comparison, Ni-AlMCM-41 was synthesized according to the literature. The catalysts were characterized by ICP, BET, XRD, STEM, and H2-TPR. In contrast to Ni-AlMCM-41 that contains Ni embedded in a layered phyllosilicate structure, the Ni-SiAlOx catalysts contain NiOx as particles as well as highly dispersed NiOx species on their surface. Despite different Ni phase the catalysts give similar catalytic results. In case of stability and propene selectivity Ni on SiAlOx with Si/Al=2.33 even outperforms Ni-AlMCM-41.
