Abstract
Sugar oxazoline derivatives were directly prepared by dehydrative cyclization of 2-acetamido-2-deoxysugars using a water-soluble carbodiimide in water. N-Acetyl-D-glucosamine, N-acetyl-o-galactosamine, and N,N'-diacctylchitobiose were converted to the corresponding 1,2-oxazoline derivatives in 37, 28, and 40 % yields, respectively.
