Abstract
The wave functions for the conduction electrons in dysprosium metal have been constructed following the APW formalism to see how much they differ from the plane wave description in pure earth metals. These functions are used to calculate the direct contributions of the conduction electrons to be crystalline electric field and the nuclear quadrupole interaction in Dy metal.
