Abstract

Nolan Rindfleisch used role-playing techniques in a survey to examine factors influencing the use of force with children in institutions. The study describes several factors associated with the willingness to use force, among them the amount of resentment toward children, the management of routines in the organization, the amount of staff participation in decison making in the facility, the size of the community in which the direct care giver was reared, and the age of the care giver. The writers suggest some methods for preventing and managing use of force and some implications for future research.
