Abstract
We modify the Lagrangian of the chiral Schwinger model (CSM) by adding a nonlocal term. Then we quantize the modified model in the temporal gauge A0 = 0 by using Dirac's quantization procedure. It is shown that the "quantize first" approach leads to the nonlocal quantum theory of the nonmodified CSM. The "constrain first" approach gives us a quantum theory in which some of the physical degrees of freedom are represented by a quantized field with exotic statistics.
