Abstract

The main goal of the Dirac Experiment at CERN is a precise determination of the S-wave ππ scattering lengths from the measurement of the ground state lifetime of π+π− atoms. This measurement will represent a crucial test of low-energy predictions of Chiral Perturbation Theory. The method of lifetime measurement is described and demonstrated in a preliminary analysis of the data collected in 1999.
