Abstract

This work proposes a dipole-array assisted Doppler spread compensator for a mobile digital terrestrial television broadcasting receiver. Since horizontal polarization is used for terrestrial television broadcasting in Japan, the horizontally polarized dipole-array gives better performance than a conventional monopole-array. Furthermore, the proposed array can be put on the side window of the vehicle, while the monopole-array should be attached on top of the vehicle. This work analyzes the optimum dipole array antenna spacing, to minimize the bit error rate performance, by computer simulation. The result shows the proposed array antenna assisted Doppler spread compensator gives comparable performance to an ideal compensator.
