Abstract
From optical absorbance measurements, the formation constants of 1:1 and 1:2 complexes between tetracyanoethylene (A) and hexamethylbenzene (D) in carbon tetrachloride have been estimated. These parameters have then been used to calculate the dipole moments of these two complexes from published dielectric constant data. The values are µAD= 2.8 ± 0.3 D and µAD2= 0 ± 1.0 D, the errors being expressed at the 95 per cent confidence level.
